The purpose of Advanced Japanese I (Japanese fourth-year) course is to prepare the way for the Advanced Japanese II (Japanese fourth year) course. This course covers from Chapter 6 through Chapter 10 of Tobira textbook***. This course aims to encourage students’ ability to express complex opinions and thoughts in Japanese through intensive discussion practices in preparation for the Advanced Japanese course II. Reading skills will be heavily emphasized, with deep analysis of fairly difficult passages and texts in Japanese. Writing assignments will focus on honing Japanese academic writing skills, along with expressing complex ideas and concepts through other written forms in Japanese. Listening practice will be heavily emphasized as well. The ultimate goal of this course is to fully become an independent learner in order to achieve the advanced level of Japanese proficiency.
