The Advanced Japanese II (Japanese fourth-year) aims at the acquisition of an advanced level of proficiency in all four areas of Japanese language learning; speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students who take this course have already built a solid foundation through seven semesters of rigorous study and intensive practice. This course not only covers the last five Chapters of Tobira textbook; students will read actual newspaper articles which deal with current events and issues that take place in Japan real time and discuss them in Japanese. JLPT Exam practice problems will also be done in class, with reading, listening, and grammar questions from JLPT N2 sample exams. Students will now need to use their skills as independent learners in order to achieve a very advanced level of Japanese proficiency. After successfully completing this course, students should be able to achieve a level of proficiency equal to the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), 2nd degree (N2).
